Participation of NI NCC – Skopje in the International Conference SEE Mosaic Meeting VII in Ljubljana

From 13 to 16 October 2026, the seventh meeting of the international network of mosaic conservation experts, SEE Mosaic Meeting VII, was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The meeting was dedicated to the theme “Reconsidering Protection of Mosaic Heritage in the Face of Climate Challenges – Conservation, Preservation and Restoration.”

At the conference, which brought together 66 experts from 14 countries, Dr Mishko Tutkovski from the National Conservation Centre – Skopje delivered an oral presentation entitled “Specific Techniques and 3D Technologies Applied in the Physical Restoration of a 6th-Century AD Opus Sectile Decoration on a Wooden Tabletop from Stobi”. The presentation covered the work carried out to date by the NCC in the research, documentation, conservation and restoration of the exceptional opus sectile mosaic from the Episcopal Residence at the archaeological site of Stobi, dating to the 6th century AD.

In addition to professional presentations, poster and video sessions, and a roundtable discussion, the programme included visits to various departments of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, as well as study visits to significant cultural heritage sites, archaeological sites and museums in Ljubljana and Celje. These activities provided opportunities to exchange professional experience and learn about different approaches to the research and protection of cultural heritage.

The meeting was organised by the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia and the National Museum of Serbia as part of the regional project SEE Mosaic: Developing a Network of Mosaic Conservation Professionals and Promoting Mosaic Heritage in Southeast Europe, with financial support from the Central European Initiative (CEI).

The participation of NI NCC – Skopje provided an opportunity to present the institution’s professional work at the international level and to strengthen cooperation and the exchange of knowledge in the field of cultural heritage protection and presentation.
