EU Project for Strengthening the Institutional Capacities in Dealing with Cultural Heritage and Environmental Crimes

The National Conservation Center – Skopje, as a partner, recently participated in the kick-off event of the EU-funded Twinning project titled “Strengthening the Institutional Capacities in Dealing with Cultural Heritage and Environmental Crimes,” held in Skopje. This collaborative initiative aims to bolster the capacity of North Macedonia in tackling cultural heritage and environmental crimes by establishing a specialized unit in the Ministry of Interior of North Macedonia in direct collaboration with Italian Carabinieri’s renowned division for the protection of cultural heritage and environmental crimes.

The project marks a significant step in enhancing the country’s institutional framework in safeguarding its invaluable cultural and natural heritage. As a key partner in this initiative, the National Conservation Center – Skopje is actively involved in supporting the creation of this new unit of the Ministry of Interior of North Macedonia, contributing its expertise and resources to ensure the protection and preservation of the nation’s cultural heritage.

During the event, the National Conservation Center – Skopje was proudly represented with an informative stand showcasing its extensive body of work. The stand featured a selection of the Center’s publications, including books, research papers, pamphlets, and postcards, which highlight the Center’s contributions to cultural heritage conservation in North Macedonia. These materials provide insights into the Center’s projects, research findings, and educational efforts aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of cultural preservation. This initiative not only reflects the Center’s commitment to protect national heritage but also underscores its active role in the broader international efforts to combat crimes against cultural assets.
